Current Sermon Series: Beginning October 24th

Jesus was a master teacher and one of his favorite tools was the use of metaphor. Even more specifically, He would use controlling metaphors, just a few words that could create a picture. That metaphor - that picture - would provide deep meaning and far-reaching application with significant implications. A good controlling metaphor allows you to hold a concept, look at it from different perspectives, and unlock new understanding. It can evolve, be applied to different circumstances.

Jesus used this method throughout His ministry. Jesus began His ministry by telling his followers,

"You are the light of the world. You are the salt of the earth; a city on a hill that cannot be hidden" and "I will make you fishers of men"! All these metaphors help them understand who they are.

Because when you understand who you are, you will know what to do!
So, as we look to the future of the church, it is vital that we understand who we are
and as The Grove, we will look at these RINGS.

I want to use metaphors taken directly from the Gospels to help us better understand who we are, who we have been called to be. Because when we know who we are we will know exactly what to do!
Behavior flows from identity, so, the title of our new series is RINGS.

The Grove is a collection of trees that has a story to tell. We believe that God is writing that story.
The rings in a tree tell the story. Not only of the tree individually, but also of the forest (grove) as well.
In three years, five years, twenty years we hope that the “rings” that make up the Grove will tell a story of redemption, growth, struggle, life-change, hope, and multiplication! We are going to look at five rings that are drawn from directly from the Gospels.
